Our little farm started in August of 2007 with 7 Dominique Hens and a Barred Rock Rooster we got from a neighbor. It was nice to have fresh eggs everyday. It wasn't long before we were looking for a goat to add to the mix. Some fresh milk, cheese and yogurt would go with those eggs quite nicely. After some research and looking we decided that the Toggenburg Breed was the one for us.
The Toggenburg goat originated in the Toggenburg Valley in the Swiss Canton of St. Gall. The breed was called by the Swiss breeders association "the oldest and purest breed in Switzerland." They were one of the first pure breeds brought to the United States and dominated the dairy goat industry for many years.
